In 2026, the Fairlington Historical Society launched the 9/11 Oral History Project in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, to document the experiences of people who were living in Fairlington at the time. We believe it is important to record these stories so current and future generations can learn how 9/11 unfolded locally through the eyes of everyday people, and to hear reflections looking back on that terrible day 25 years later.
With support from the Arlington Historical Society, we trained five FHS members in the basics of conducting oral history interviews. So far, we have collected ten oral histories from current and former Fairlingtonians. We are looking for more Fairlington residents who were living here on September 11, 2001 and would be willing to share their experiences for the project.
