Archive

The FHS Archive was designed by Board of Trustee member and Certified Archivist, Ruth Kerns. Located at the Arlington County Public Library (1015 Quincy Street) in the Virginia Room, the Fairlington Collection currently includes the records of the Historic Designation Committee and those of the FHS. A description of the collection is contained in the Fairlington Collection Archive Finding Aid.

The FHS Archive also includes a variety of material, photographs, and memorabilia loaned for duplication or donated by past and present Fairlington residents. For example, we have preserved:

  • A sample of original, 1943 kitchen linoleum flooring, uncovered during a remodeling
  • Wallpaper from the conversion period in the mid-1970s discovered when light switches were replaced
  • A child’s sweatshirt from the Fairlington Elementary School, presently the Fairlington Community Center, now returned to its owner
  • Photographs documenting the process of gutting and renovating one resident’s apartment home in 1977
  • Family photographs taken in and around Fairlington homes and patios

Do you have photographs or other memorabilia of life in Fairlington? We’d love to preserve them in our Archive. Contact us.
