A nationally significant example of community planning and publicly financed housing built for defense workers and their families during World War II. Designed by renowned architects Kenneth Franzheim and Alan B. Mills, Fairlington was the largest project financed by the Defense Homes Corporation and the nation's largest residential complex at the time.
