Patricia Clark
Patricia Clark is a librarian, retired from the United States Information Agency. She holds a B.A. degree from Chatham College and an M.L.S. degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology, Carnegie Library School. She has lived in Fairlington since 1977.
Ms. Clark served on the 60th Anniversary Fundraising subcommittee and created all of our fundraising databases on foundations, area businesses, individual contributors, and members. She was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2004 and serves as Secretary.
Sandra Heaton
Sandy Heaton is retired from the Office of the Secretary, Department of the Treasury, where she served as Director of Training. She currently runs Simply Put, a personal organization services firm. A Fairlington resident since 1974, she has served on the building and grounds and budget committees of the Fairlington Glen. Ms. Heaton served on the 2003 and 2005 Home and Garden Tour committees, and was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2005.
Cynthia Kunz
Cynthia Kunz is a mediator in private practice. She is the president of Kunz and Company, Inc., a collaborative practice of facilitators, mediators, arbitrators, and learning systems specialists. Ms. Kunz also serves as a Senior Scientist for the Human Interaction Research Institute in Los Angeles and as a Senior Analyst for The CDM Group, Inc. in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Ms. Kunz has held positions in local and State government, and has handled a range of public and private mediation and conflict prevention cases over the past 30 years. She holds a B.A. in history from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota, and has pursued graduate studies in public administration and in conflict analysis and resolution at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.
She has lived in Fairlington since 1980. She was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2000 and serves as the Society’s Vice President.
David Marshall
David Marshall is a retired Maine state legislator and lobbyist. A Fairlington resident since 1992, he now runs Marshall Limousine Service. Mr. Marshall was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2005 and serves as Treasurer.
Terry Placek
Terry Placek is the Chief of the Comptroller Proponency Office, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller. She has served in the Army’s financial management organization since 1968, and has served as the Director of the Association of the Industrial Colleges of the Armed Forces, the Buffalo Soldier Foundation, and the President’s Executive Exchange Program Alumni Association, and as a member of the American Society of Military Comptrollers National Executive Committee.
She has lived in Fairlington since 1977, and has been very active in North Fairlington governance, serving on this board since 1986. She was elected to the FHS Board of Trustees in 2000 and served as the Vice President until 2004, when she was elected President.

- Sandra Hodapp (2000 – 2005)
Ms. Hodapp served on the Society’s predecessor organization, the Fairlington Historic Designation Committee, as Chair of the Finance Committee and Co-Chair of the committee that selected the historic district plaques and locations. She was one of the co-founders of the FHS, and served as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees and as Board liaison to the 2005 Home and Garden Tour Committee. David Manning (2000 – 2001)
- Ruth Kerns (2002 – 2005)
Ms. Kerns served on the Historic Designation Committee that preceded the FHS, as the first chair of the FHS Historic Preservation Committee, and on the Board of Trustees (2002-2005). She served as the Society’s archivist in residence, negotiating the creation of the FHS archive at the Arlington Public Library, and creating the series of FHS displays featured at the North Fairlington and Fairlington Community Centers.
- Ron Patterson (2000 – 2004)
Mr. Patterson was the founding President of the Society and is a tireless advocate for historic preservation and community volunteer. He led the board from its organization through the 60th Anniversary celebration, and served as the editor and publisher for Fairlington at 50: 1943-1993 - The 60th Anniversary Edition. Mr. Patterson was honored by his fellow trustees in 2003 with the first Board of Trustee’s Award and a commemorative plate.
- David Manning (2000 – 2001)
Mr. Manning has been a Fairlington resident since 1980, and served on the Society’s first Board of Trustees. He served as a production manager for the original publication of Fairlington at 50: 1943-1993 and has been active in community affairs, having served as the president of the Fairlington Citizens Association and as a board member of Fairlington Meadows. Mr. Manning continues to be involved in community justice issues in Arlington County.
